About Us
Our History
Since 1949, the Oregon Association of Student Councils has supported thousands of student leaders. Founded with the purpose of developing leadership, OASC helps students improve their own lives while learning to lead others through service, involvement, and action.
OASC is dedicated to empowering the next generation of leaders through mentorship, community service, and leadership development programs. Our mission is to cultivate the skills, character, and confidence students need to become impactful leaders in their schools, communities, and beyond.
Through culturally responsive and in-the-moment programming, OASC emphasizes ownership, growth mindset, equity and inclusion as core values (not peripheral footnotes), and the belief that leadership is for everyone.
Governance
A 21 member board governs the Oregon Association of Student Councils (OASC). Ten of the board members are secondary school teachers/advisors, administrators and/or alumni who are involved in activities. The Student Executive Council (SEC) comprises the other eleven board members: one State President, two At-Large Representatives, seven Regional Representatives and one appointed mid-level representatives. Our constitution was ratified in 1949 and last updated in January 2023.

Executive Director, Cameron Broome
Broome is an esteemed educator dedicated to fostering excellence in leadership and business education in Oregon. As an educator and working professional, he has developed many tools over his career that have proven to be instrumental in how he shapes the young minds of student leaders. Broome’s commitment to student leadership extends beyond the classroom. He has been a pivotal figure in the Oregon Association of Student Councils (OASC) for 15 years, contributing in various capacities that highlight his dedication to youth development. His intimate knowledge of the organization’s programs, vision and mission, and partnerships make him an an invaluable asset to OASC.
Equity and Inclusion
In the summer of 2020, OASC convened a committee led by advisors, students, and alumni of color charged with advising the labor of the Executive Director and Board in making this association more equitable and inclusive. They have since crafted an action plan for our organization with short-term and long-term recommended strategies and action steps to address areas within OASC identified as needing improvement — with the agency to address any other areas the committee determines. OASC staff and board will support and empower this committee.
The ongoing goals of the Equity & Inclusion Committee are to:
expand diversity, equity, and inclusion, and anti-racism trainings and programming at OASC conferences, workshops and camps;
advocate for OASC curriculum, programming and policies to be culturally informed by the BIPOC experience;
ensure equitable access to programming and events for students or advisors of color and other underrepresented groups;
help OASC support school districts in improving the racial diversity among Oregon educators, leadership advisors, and leadership within the education system, and; advise OASC in diversifying their leadership to have voices at the table more representative of the lived experiences of Oregon students, educators, and communities as a whole.
