Former OASC Executive Director Leaves Strong Legacy on NASSCED Board of Directors

Sara Nilles, former Executive Director of the Oregon Association of Student Councils, was honored this November after ten years of membership in the National Association of Secondary Student Council Executive Directors (NASSCED) and serving a year as the vice-president of the NASSCED Board of Directors.

The organization voted by acclamation to award Nilles a lifetime membership in thanks for her many gifts to the association.  Nilles utilized her expertise developed in her leadership role in the Coalition of Oregon School Administrators (COSA) to guide NASSCED in updating its strategic plan and in the creation of a new logo.  In addition, Nilles created a repository of resources for the organization. 

Terry Hamm, immediate Past President of NASSCED said, “I was so very grateful to work with Sara this past year.  2020 was not the year any of us wanted, and Sara’s calm demeanor, her positive attitude, and her incredible skill at making things happen were greatly needed.  She was the support I needed as president this past year.  It has been a joy to have her as a mentor and a friend.  She is a gift to the world of student activities and will be greatly missed by all of us in NASSCED.  She is not only an impressive leader of students; she is also a leader of adults who work with them.”

NASSCED is an association of individuals from across the United States who work with their respective state student council associations to further leadership development among middle and high school students.  Working together with student council advisors across the nation, members strive to provide outstanding leadership experiences at the local, state, and national level to thousands of student leaders.
